Nike Marc Newson Zvezdochka Orange (2014) Size 44

The Nike Marc Newson Zvezdochka shoe was designed by the designer Marc Newson @marcnewsonofficial and named after a Russian dog that went to space with the Sputnik 10 in 1961. The Zvezdochka was a groundbreaking and innovative footwear design that laid the foundation for advancements like Flyknit technology and even 3D printing. It was the first Nike shoe to be entirely designed using computer technology.

Whats for me the most interessting part is the modular design that features a outer perforated cage, a detachable insole, and a mesh sock liner. The inspiration for this shoe was a visit from Newson’s to the Russian Space Institute, where he envisioned an adaptable shoe for astronauts. The Zvezdochka received the prestigious 2005 Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award and was sold at sothebys for 1000 USD. Though it was not widely popular upon its release, it has since become a rare collector’s item.
